Numark Mixtrack Pro FX vs. Platinum FX – which one to choose?
In 2020 the Numark Mixtrack range received a significant overhaul with the introduction of the new Mixtrack Pro FX and Mixtrack Platinum FX DJ controllers.
We recently tested both these units to see how they stand up to the competition, but more importantly how they stand up to their predecessors, as the Numark Mixtrack range is built on a solid reputation for providing really good and functional budget-friendly controllers.
It’s no coincidence that the original Numark Mixtrack Pro was the biggest selling DJ controller when first released.
Despite its remarkable durability the original Mixtrack did feel like a budget unit.
Today the Mixtrack series is all grown up and feels rigid, seems durable and quite professional. It’s also not Numark’s absolute cheapest controllers anymore.
If you are looking for rock bottom prices perhaps look at the Numark Party Mix (the name says it all) or the Numark DJGO2 Touch.
It’s the Numark Mixtrack range though, consisting of the Pro FX and the Platinum FX that I’d recommend.
Both these units are well-priced, really well made, and have a great feature set, not only for beginners, but for any DJ playing small private events or simply for home use.
You can read a thorough review of each of these controllers here:
If full reviews are a bit long for you then here’s a summary of each unit’s features.
Numark Mixtrack Pro FX vs. Platinum FX Features
Mixtrack Series Pros & Cons
Which Mixtrack suits you best?
You are going to pay approximately R 1,000– R 1,500 more for the Platinum FX.
If you have no intention of every running more than two decks then there is no point spending the extra cash.
The jogwheel displays may seem more like a ‘nice-to-have’ feature, and for a two-deck unit that’s what they would mainly be, but for four-deck control on a two channel unit, they are very necessary in order to know which decks are active (1 & 3 or 2 & 4).
2-deck/4-deck control and budget should be your deciding factor between the two.
If you can afford the extra bucks then go for the Platinum FX, even if you’re not sure you will ever use the extra two decks.
You never know, and for minimal music styles like techno, four decks are actually a winner.
But if you want to start off with the basics and learn to DJ, the Pro FX is a great unit to both learn on and have tons of fun playing with. Other than the 4-deck control and displays the two controllers are identical.
Expect to pay:
Numark Mixtrack Pro FX – R 4,500 – R6,000
Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX – R 5,500 – R6,000
