Beatport DJ is a FREE online DJ app for Beatport LINK subscribers
In a move that may (or may not) irk the big players in the DJ app market, Beatport have announced Beatport DJ, a FREE DJ app.
Beatport DJ is currently in public beta but it seems to work quite well in a web browser.
Beatport DJ interfaces directly with Beatport LINK, which is Beatport’s proprietary music streaming service, so if you are a subscriber to LINK you have access to millions of tracks straight off the bat.
In truth it’s not really designed to compete with Serato, rekordbox, Traktor, Virtual DJ, Djay Pro or any other DJ app.
It seems to have mainly been released to enhance the offering of Beatport LINK subscriptions.
So, if you build a playlist online in Beatport’s DJ app, which allows one to play full tracks, mix them, create crates/playlist etc. these playlists will show immediately in your own LINK compatible DJ software if you are a subscriber.
Cue points and loops created in the FREE online DJ app will also show up in your DJ app, which actually makes Beatport DJ a great tool to both discover music as well as do all the prep work as you preview tunes for your next set.
More than just a set previewer/player
Although it’s not designed to replace your existing DJ software, Beatport’s FREE online DJ app is pretty featured packed.
You get zoomable waveforms, key lock, effects, cues, loops, beat jump, Midi mapping, audio interface support, beatgridding and more.
Automix will no doubt be a popular feature as you can take any Beatport LINK playlist, including ones you’ve created yourself from within the app, and it mixed them pretty well.
The automix feature actually allows one to shuffle, skip, and jump around among tunes when it is automixing, and any time you want you can take over the mixing.
