Reason 11 introduces their Rack as a plugin
Reason 11 as a plugin!
Reason certainly needs no introduction; the software has been at the forefront of hands-on hardware-style sound design for decades.
Propellerhead have been one of the big names in music production software for a few decades, but something big is about to change.
One of the biggest drawbacks facing Reason users over the years has been the less-than-desired VST compatibility.
In fact, it’s only recently that we saw the introduction of VST compatibility at all, and a few years ago was the first time we saw actual audio channels.
If those weren’t big enough introductions to the system that focused on hardware-style routing and sequencing, then be prepared for the announcements in Reason 11.
Firstly, and probably the most exciting news for me personally, is the ability to load Reason as a plugin in other DAWs.
This is a giant leap for the developers, as I think they really had something special with the hands-on playability of Reason, but since the push to standardise the DAW alongside its competitors – I personally feel that original concept has been watered down a bit.
Until now, now you can load Reason as a plugin, and make the most of both worlds.
New plugin, new effects…
Reason 11 also sees the introduction of five new devices – Quartet Chorus offers four unique flavours of effect which range from subtle chorus to granular ensemble effects. Sweeper Modulation is a more extreme mod effect, offering phasers, flangers and filter-style effects with a variety of internal modulation capabilities.
Master Bus Compressor, Channel Dynamics and Channel EQ are pretty self-explanatory, just adding to the overall variety of effects to choose from.
Alongside the release of version 11, the developers have also decided to undergo a re-branding – the former Propellerhead will now be known as Reason Studios.
“We’re changing our name to Reason Studios to clearly express our dedication in delivering the best experience for all music makers, regardless of where they are in their creative journeys,” said Timothy Self, Chief Product Officer.
“The world really knows us for Reason. Reason Studios encapsulates our mission of building a platform for all music creators. Reason 11, with its seamless integration into other music production software, truly exemplifies how we want to open up to the world.”
Reason 11 launches on 25 September 2019, for more information check out the website here
