Pioneer RB-DMX1 allows DJs full control of their lighting
The Pioneer RB-DMX1 and Rekordbox DJ 5 allow DJs to directly control their lighting system or set up complex shows.
The Rekordbox 5 update saw the introduction of a new light-mode feature, which automatically analyses your tracks and uses an algorithm to create various sections to apply different light effects to. This allows you to focus on the music, while the software/hardware takes care of the visual effects of the show. When used alongside the new Pioneer RB-DMX1 system, you have the ability to link the light-mode feature to any DMX compatible lighting features, the software even comes with a huge library of ready-made presets for most lighting manufacturers.
The Pioneer RB-DMX1 hardware interface is intuitive and built like a tank, it has a blue LED that flashes until you have a light connected, then fully illuminates. This makes troubleshooting in a dark DJ booth a breeze. Rekordbox 5’s new light-mode feature allows you to customize your own lighting macros, create your own advanced sequences and even pre-plan a complete lightshow.
Have we seen this before?
This isn’t the first time we are seeing DJ gear manufacturers push to introduce lighting and visual effects features into their platforms, it’s something that Denon recently announced with their StagelinQ system, however it’s great to see it becoming somewhat of an industry standard – as technological advances allow for more advanced feature integrations. What is the next step? 3D projector mapping software linked directly to DJ software? We can only hope!
The Pioneer RB-DMX1 system retails for USD $349 (Around R 5,000 excl. duties), the system comes bundled with a license for the Pioneer Rekordbox DJ software platform, allowing you to get going straight out of the box, whether you’re going to pair it with decks or just create unique light shows.
If you have lighting features that aren’t in the standard list of presets, Pioneer has asked to add a request on their forum, and they will try and create presets for those fixtures.
