Toya Delazy leaves Sony, goes independent
Toya Delazy leaves Sony Music Africa!
True story…
And not that big a surprise to be honest.
There have been hints of this happening for a while as Delazy has reportedly experienced quite a frustrating time at the major label since the release of her last album.
If you read our interview with her in 2014 there are subtle hints of her frustration with being signed to a major label.
So now that Toya Delazy leaves Sony where does this leave her?
Here’s her official press release…
Johannesburg, Tuesday, 19 April 2016 – Multiple award winning, BET Award nominee, Toya Delazy, has just officially announced her departure from Sony Music Africa. Today marks the beginning of a new era for Toya Delazy as Delazy Entertainment officially signs on Klutch Kollective, an all-female rap crew to which she forms a part of. Toya Delazy will also release new music as an independent artist under Delazy Entertainment very soon.
“Today marks a significant day for me. I only realised when I signed the Klutch Kollective contracts today that 19 April 2011 was the day I signed to Sony Music Africa. I take this coincidence as the beginning of a great new chapter and I look forward to sharing more music with South Africa and the rest of the world” shares Today Delazy.
Klutch Kollective’s debut single, Back To The Roots, has been play listed on radio stations across the country and is on high rotation on stations such as East Coast Radio and recently made the Breaking and Entering Chart on YFM.
