Shimza and PH break world’s longest b2b DJ set record

Shimza and PH played for 72-hours at Icon in Soweto- the world’s longest b2b DJ set.

Earlier this month we shared Shimza’s plan to be a record-holder and today we are happy to report that they pulled it off.

The longest every sol DJ set, however, clocks in at 240 hours by DJ Obi.

Shimza and PH have joined the great’s who put Mzansi in the winner’s circle this year by breaking the record for the longest set played in the world.

Starting last Thursday, 12 December, the DJs took to the stage at Icon in Soweto as part of the duo’s Unstoppable Extreme Energy Experience in an attempt to break the record for longest DJ set played- which they successfully managed to do by Sunday, 15 December.

“It felt good breaking the record.

Honestly didn’t think it would have such a big impact, but as we started I could see how people really wanted to see that thing happen. The support from friends, family and people who follow us was amazing, that’s what kept us going most of the time,” Shimza told TshisaLIVE after breaking the record.

The method

With their back to back DJ set clocking in at 72-hours, how did they maintain?

Shimza chalks it up to getting his body strong for the occasion, hitting the gym.

“It was not easy but I think if I didn’t gym before that, I would have been more tired and defeated.

We took five-to-six-hour sleeping breaks while the other would push a five-to-six-hour set, we’d play back-to-back for about three to four, then take one-hour to two-hour naps and toilet breaks in between,” Shimza said.

Feeling overwhelmed by support, PH posted his thanks on Twitter, saying:

“Haven’t had a chance to tweet properly! Thank you so much to everyone who came to Icon. That was genuinely the best party I’ve been to in a long time! I got to show off my god-given talent and it was so fun. Bekumnandi f*cked up, yho!”
