Pharrell Williams invests in ROLI, a music tech startup
Pharrell Williams invests in the tech startup called ROLI, an innovative brand bringing new Pharrell, who has always focussed on the bigger picture regarding music, has now become co-owner of the UK-based music tech start-up ROLI.
With his investment, he has now taken up the position as chief creative officer of the company.
Over the past few years ROLI has been innovating a range of instruments aimed at giving musicians more reign over artistic expression.
For example their Seaboard Keyboards offers a soft, touch-responsive surface that registers movement including glides, slides as well as traditional key presses.
Bringing back the beloved ‘Lego concept’, their Block devices are a modular instrument system that works in conjunction with an app on your phone.
According to ROLI, these instruments are only the beginning of the journey towards creating “digitally connected, beautifully designed instruments that open up music creation to everyone.”

Pharrell says in a statement:
“Music touches all of us, and for a long time I’ve been passionate about finding ways to share the power of music with more people. When I met [company founder] Roland Lamb and ROLI, I immediately felt we were working towards exactly the same goals, and so I’m super excited that we’re kicking off this partnership.”
This is not a case of a celebrity getting involved in something to just bring exposure. Pharrell has over 2 decades of experience in the music industry, from song writing to producing- he is the perfect person to bring forth ideas that will innovate music production.
This comes at a perfect time as their competition, Native Instruments, has just acquired a massive investment.
As part of the announcement, ROLI revealed that Pharrell has made a ‘Happy’ soundpack for its Noise app.
Pharrell Williams invests in the ROLI team, and it’s a happy happening.
