Okmalumkoolkat to host free concert focusing on women’s abuse awareness.
South African rapper Okmalumkoolkat has announced a free concert for a good cause.
The aim of the concert, which will be held in Durban, is to “spread awareness about women abuse and abduction in South Africa” he wrote on social media.
All proceeds will go to charity, focusing on anti-abuse, anti-abduction, and anti-human trafficking.
These issues plague the lives of many South Africans and result in a fear-stricken nation.
As for the line-up, artists such as Babes Wodumo, Mampintsha and DJ Sndo have volunteered their services for the cause.
As there have been many abductions recently in the KZN, he feels that that is the ideal location for the concert to be held.
Compensation station
In January 2016 we reported how Omkalumkoolkat was arrested and jailed in Australia due to a sexual assault charge.
He reportedly sexually assaulted a fellow artist performing at Hobart’s Mofo Festival.
After a night of drinking he entered her room through an external sliding door left agape. The unnamed woman then woke up to him in her bed, kissing her neck and rubbing her. He then said ‘don’t make any noise.”
His side of the story is the classic ‘I couldn’t find my hotel room’ and ‘I lost my friends’ excuse. What, so you thought you might find your way encroaching on woman fast asleep and defenseless?
After spending over a month in an Ozzie jail he returned home apologizing to “everyone affected by this” yet failed to apologise directly to the victim.
He also stated that he only plead guilty due to the advice of his lawyer and because he was in a foreign country.
He also says how he wants to “move on and heal” – we’re sure his victim would also like to move on and heal…
The irony of this awareness concert in lieu with his charge of sexual assault is obvious in compensation.
However awareness for a good cause is still positive.
Let’s hope that Okmalumkoolkat pays attention at his own concert, which will be held on Saturday June 17 at the Rivertown Shed in Durban from 12pm-2am.
