Okmalumkoolkat returns to SA after stint in Oz jail
Okmalumkoolkat returns home after spending more than a month in an Australian jail for breaking into a fellow artist’s room and sexually assaulting her.
The South African rapper has made a post on his Facebook fanpage where he promises to tell his story of what happened in the future.
Okmalumkoolkat returns and says…
“I am sincerely sorry to everybody affected by this.” And he fails to directly apologise to the victim who was on the receiving end of his assault.
He shares the full term of his official charge:
“Assault with intent of indecency and assault with intent.”
He claims that he pleaded guilty because he was advised to do so, implying that he is in fact innocent in some way or other; which really just seems like an attempt to lighten the affects of his actions.
“I pleaded guilty for a number of reasons, one of which was that I was in a foreign country and was advised by legal aid to do so.” he wrote
The post centres on how he would like to “move on and heal”, and sees the rapper paint himself as a victim and subsequent wronged person.
A nobler approach could have been to own his bad decisions and offer his apologies to the person whose hotel room he broke into and attempted to violate while she was asleep.
Okmalumkoolkat real name Brian Simiso Zwane, had been in Australia to perform at a festival. After a night of drinking he claimed that the combination of failing to find his friends and being drunk led him to creep in through a sliding door of a fellow artist.
The victim reported the following to the police:
“He entered the victim’s hotel room through an external sliding door that had been left ajar. The unnamed woman woke up to find him in her bed kissing her neck and rubbing her body. He then told her ‘don’t make any noise’”.
Okmalumkoolkat returns to salvage a career that was only just starting to really take off.
