Massive Attack Ritual Spirit – first release since 2010
Massive Attack Ritual Spirit EP is the first release by the group since 2010. The track list on the EP includes collaborations with Young Fathers, Roots Manuva, and Tricky.
The group came through with a new interactive app known as Fantom. The innovative app takes data from your environment such as movement, your heartbeat, time of day, and camera images to help remix the Massive Attack Ritual Spirit EP’s four new tracks.
Massive Attack teased on Instagram that fans will soon be able to listen to the original masters of the songs on a physical release.
Robert Del Naja also known as 3D posted a picture which looks like the back of a vinyl sleeve for the Massive Attack Ritual Spirit EP.
The track list includes all four of the tracks featured on their new and original interactive app, Fantom. “Dead Editors” has vocals from Roots Manuva, “Voodoo In My Blood” features Young Fathers, Azekel features on the title track, and Tricky features on “Take It There”.
The post that Robert Del Naja made was published without a caption so a release date is not yet known. It’s exciting for all fans to know that the date is incoming though. The band’s press representative confirmed with Consequence of Sound that it would not be out by the 28th of January, but sadly shared no further information other than that.
Along with the Fantom app and the anticipation building techniques that they are incorporating into their promo release campaign, it is definitely a sure fire way to help generate interest. Especially since their last release Heligoland, was out five years ago.
The app is available on the Apple store and is a great opportunity for Massive Attack supporters to get in on the new Massive Attack Ritual Spirite EP action. It should be interesting to hear some of the fan remixes that take shape.
