DJ Dash gets mugged on his 20 day walk for charity, still completes it
Dash from the mugger he couldn’t; DJ Dash gets mugged on his walk for charity.
Just over 20 days ago KZN-born Thulani “DJ Dash” Mzinyane set off to actively make a change in the country by walking alone from Joburg to Durban to raise funds for his charity, Feed a Child, Feed a Nation.
The charity has been going for 6 years, feeding thousands of underprivileged children as well as donating blankets and toiletries to street kids, all by him walking between cities, and now even across provinces.
Though he only raised R150 on this walk and being mugged when he entered KZN, Dash said he would do it again in a flash for the cause.
Just walk it out
It is reported that after reaching Pinetown on Friday, Dash decided to visit his brother in Durban North.
En route, at about 5am, he was mugged near the Early Morning Market by 2 men, one of whom had a knife. They made off with his camping bag containing valuables like his money, bank cards, phone and clothes.
“After that, I went to my brother’s place and stayed there for the weekend before being taken back to Pinetown to complete the walk from there to Durban,” he said.
On Monday he completed the 540km walk after 20 days and encountering some wild sights like a dead cheetah and also crossed paths with a snake.
“I’ve always loved helping people and I can’t watch kids suffer, hence I started Feed a Child Feed a Nation (FACFAN).
“There are too many children suffering in our country and few people are doing something about it. I believe that if we come together, we can make a huge change.”
FACFAN accepts both money and foodstuff like beans, sugar, maize meal and tea.
DJ Dash gets mugged, undeterred he plans to walk from Joburg to Cape Town (1397, 7 km) before the end of the year.
