Distruction Boyz homecoming show goes haywire with mobbing and robbing
Distruction Boyz homecoming show was so off the chain that the chain was stolen.
Distruction Boyz have had an incredible year. Their album, Gqom is the Future went Gold- selling 20, 000 units- and they won their first award at the Soundcity MVP Awards held in Nigeria for Best Duo/Group.
They have also had some tumultuous times, like when they literally blew out speakers at a show in Buluwayo, though the crowd was being hit by too big a Gqom surge to really care.
The Boyz have been making waves everywhere they go, including their hometown, where they hosted a homecoming show at the Artizen Restaurant and Lounge in KwaMashu, North of Durban.
A welcome home mob!
The hit makers behind Omunye were celebrating their Song of The Year Award, but celebrations soon turned sour when tickets at the gate were sold out…
In a way it’s flattering that people just wanted to show the Boyz some love, though flattening the gate and storming inside might not have sent the desired message.
Witnesses are blaming the organizers for selling tickets at too cheap a price, R50, which also led to ‘whoonga addicts’ being able to buy tickets.
And when maximum capacity was reached, the crowd demanded free entry…
According to other witnesses, many revelers got robbed of their belongings, including expensive Peruvian and Brazilian wigs, takkies and bags.
“We were naturally worried about the amount of people at the venue, people were on top of each other and there was no space for anyone. We are glad that no one was hurt. We threw the concert for our fans in our hometown and I guess everyone wanted to see the boys they had grown up with. I think it was just a case of people getting over excited,” one of the members Que said speaking to TshisaLive.
I guess this Distruction Boyz homecoming show debacle is testament that they aren’t small town anymore.
