Distruction Boyz win award at the Soundcity MVP Awards in Nigeria
Distruction Boyz win award for Best Group/Duo.
What a year it’s been for one of SA’s biggest Gqom acts, Distruction Boyz.
Not only did they have major success with their hit track Omunye, but their album, Gqom is the Future, which was released on 20 October 2017, obtained gold status a mere 8 weeks after release.
Going gold in SA means they sold 20,000 units, a first for any Gqom album.
The group said: “It’s amazing not only for us but the entire team. It’s something you can never get used to because this means that until the end of time, the world will always remember that Distruction Boyz from South Africa were the first to reach gold in the genre.”
Gqom seems to be the future!
From such great heights the duo keeps soaring as they can now add winning an award to their accolades.
Distruction Boyz took home their first award in the category for Best Group/Duo at the Soundcity MVP Awards held in Nigeria on Friday, 12 January 2018.
“Last night we won our first award and we won it in another country! WOW!” The group wrote on social media. “South Africa this is your victory. History has been made again,” they went on to say.
What does the dynamic duo have in store for us for 2018?
“More collaborations. More polishing of the sound. More exports of the sound. More live elements added to the sound and definitely more education towards to production of the sound so gqom is here to stay and we are here to take it to the world,” said Mgobozi.
First Distruction Boyz win award, next thing they take over the world!
