Korg Releases Gadget LE and its FREE for Mac users
Korg have just announced Gadget LE, a FREE and obviously stripped down version of their popular Mac DAW, Gadget which is currently on sale too at $199, a really good price anyway.
Gadget LE is completely FREE and includes 5 free synths. These are the London, Dubline, Marseille, Phoenix and Chicago.
The full version comes with over 30 instruments (Korg calls them Gadgets) and makes use of Ableton Link which makes jamming with other digital musicians an absolute breeze.
Gadget LE however has several limitations like no Ableton Link support (not yet anyway) and you cannot export audio, MIDI or save your work as an Ableton project, features all available in the full version. You also can’t import MIDI and the iCloud and iCloud Drive features are also disabled.
You can make use of Gadget Cloud, however, so for those wanting to work with cloud storage, not all is lost. Allihoopa, the online community site for music producers is also included so there is still enough opportunity to share your tunes with the rest of the world.
From what we can tell the arrange and mixer sections seem to be pretty much the same on Gadget LE as the full blown version.
The bottom line is the LE version of Gadget may not be enough long term but it’s a great place to start – and for FREE!
Who knows… once you’ve played around with it, you may just want to grab the full version with all 30 instruments and all the pro features that come with it.
Download Gadget LE for FREE.
