Vulse iOS app – that Matt Bellamy sound on a budget!
Vulse is an intuitive iOS app designed for Guitar processing which offers some exciting features like gesture and accelerometer control.
If you’re familiar with Matt Bellamy – Guitarist of legendary band, Muse, you’ve probably seen some of his weird and wonderful custom-made guitars. A large amount of the guitars he uses on stage have a touchpad installed offering a control interface that is connected to a Korg Kaoss Pad. This setup gives Matt the ability to tweak the effects parameters while strumming and picking the guitar, everything from granular warping effects, to pitch-shifting – it’s something that makes Muse’s sound so unique and expressive.
Vulse is an iOS app built on a similar concept, the idea is to attach your device to your guitar using Velcro or a specialized mount. The app then processes your Guitar’s input signal and allows you to control the parameters of various effects either using the touchscreen of your device, or various accelerometer controls, allowing you to change parameters by tilting your guitar sideways or forwards.
What kind of sounds does Vulse offer?
Vulse recently added seven new effects pedals in an update, Harmonizer, Vibrato, Smooth Shift, DeepWah, LowPass & HighPass have been added to the line-up of Pitch Shift, Distortion, Echo, Reverb, Wah and Volume. Create your own complex pedalboard effects chains which you can save and recall at any moment with a single tap. Setup your own default configurations for each effect unit, so you can quickly create new pedalboard on the fly.
The app features a noise-gate at the input stage to clean up the sound of your guitar before processing, and while the effects are tailored towards guitar processing Vulse is not limited to that. You can just as easily use it for vocals or synths.
Best of all, Vulse is totally free!
So, head over to their app store page and check it out.
