u-He Colour Copy – the new Bucket-Brigade style delay plugin
Legendary plugin developers just launched an epic new delay plugin; the u-He Colour Copy faithfully emulates the classic Bucket-Brigade style.
Before the invention and popularization of the BBD (Bucket-Brigade Device) chip in the 70s and 80s, most (if not all) delay effects (such as echo, chorus and flanger) were made using magnetic tape machines, and the manipulation of the play-heads and tape itself. Because of the nature of tape and its large components, these types of effects units were often large and clunky – and remained mainly in studios. While these have their specific sound, some units like the iconic Roland RE-201 can still be found in studios to this day, the invention of the BBD chip meant both the ability to scale down the size of the unit and introduce a world of other parameters.
Guitar effects manufacturers like MXR, Boss and Electro-Harmonix now had the ability to create a plethora of time-based effects into a form-factor that fits the needs of the gigging musician. The fact that the effect used no magnetic tape, and the necessary components to drive it – meant much cheaper production and maintenance, which saw a massive increase in the popularity of delay-style effects.
Ok, so more about u-He Colour Copy…
u-He Colour Copy is a faithful emulation of the classic BBD-style analog delay effect, it offers incredibly smooth rate-transitions reminiscent of the original BBD chips, and even has the ability to keytrack the rate for unique pitched effects.
u-He Colour Copy features five unique feedback colouration algorithms, with the ability to sweep between them, for almost infinite variety. The plugin has the ability to “Freeze”, meaning the feedback loops infinitely, allowing you to tweak the parameters while the sound echoes out – creating some unique effects.
The plugin features a modulation section, with a host of thoughtfully selected mod destinations, there is a “Ducking” section for sidechain style effects and furthermore u-He Colour Copy offers various input and output routing configurations and the ability to shift the “tap” of either of the stereo lines – for shifting the time of one of the channels.
If you’re familiar with any of u-He’s plugins, you will know their core focus is on audio quality and playability – both are definitely apparent in u-He Colour Copy.
The plugin goes for only €69 Euro (Around R1200).
