Skoog Skwitch is a one-button music creation system for anyone

The Skoog Skwitch is a one-button controller that clips onto mobile devices and enables almost anyone to make music on-the-fly.

The Skoog Skwitch is a fun and easy-to-use controller consisting of a single button and an intuitive app, allowing anyone with little-to-no music knowledge to get creative.

The controller has a unique tactile interface, allowing for various gestures to control your sound in various ways. The interesting part about this system is that the controller features no expensive electronics, it clips onto your mobile device and passes your gestures to the app mechanically, the app then decodes that into music.

The app works seamlessly with the controller, harnessing the power of your mobile device to create a compact and expressive music-making system.

The app features various tutorials to help you get started quickly, it comes with a variety of pre-made projects to start from or build your own from scratch. The app is also Bluetooth compatible and allows you to link up a couple of devices to send signals to one another.

How to get one…

The Skoog Skwitch is currently on an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for initial production, they’re also running what they call the “Skwitch:lab takeover” where they are inviting independent developers to help out in creating new and unique apps to use alongside the controller.

They’re also running campaigns where you can vote on features that you would like to see in the system.

The system also allows you to send MIDI messages to a DAW via Bluetooth, so you can control parameters in your DAW or favourite plugins in new, interesting ways.

The downside is that it’s currently only available for iOS, however hopefully with enough funding, we will see another version for Android devices.

If you already own an iOS device, this is just about the cheapest MPE device available – if you pledge USD $28 (Around R410 excl. duties) to the campaign for the “Super Early Bird” package, you can secure yourself a Skoog Skwitch, thereafter the retail price will be USD $58 (Around R850 excl. duties).
