Sequential Prophet XL announced – with 32 voices of polyphony!
The new Sequential Prophet XL will appeal to the more discerning players with its 76-key piano-style keyboard and 32 voices.
We recently saw the release of the Prophet X, which featured a hybrid synthesis engine – essentially a multi-sample library alongside the legendary Sequential synthesizer architecture. The new Sequential Prophet XL features 150gb of multi-sample material, developed in association with highly-acclaimed company, 8Dio. The library features everything from acoustic instruments to the more abstract stuff, you can see how the added piano-style keys and octaves make sense now.
In terms of the synthesis engine in the new Sequential Prophet XL, it features 32-voice architecture with paraphonic or stereo filter capabilities. Four internal LFOs and four loopable five-stage envelopes provide almost any modulation capabilities, furthermore you have access to an advanced mod matrix on the OLED screen. The Sequential Prophet XL features a polyphonic step sequencer, capable of triggering up to six notes for each of the 64 steps. There’s also an internal arpeggiator for getting those quick-and-easy melodies going.
Does the Sequential Prophet XL have internal effects?
Oh, does it have effects, each of the layers can have up to two stacked effects loaded, and you can choose from various reverbs, delays, chorus, phase shifter, flanger, rotary cabinet, filter and distortion.
The Sequential Prophet XL features three OLED displays, one for the general stuff, and then two more focused screens in the Sample and Effects section – this makes navigation an absolute breeze.
The Prophet XL features Piano-style semi-weighted keys, it would have been nice to see full-weighted hammer-action keys, however I’m sure that would drive the price up drastically. The Sequential Prophet XL retails for USD $4799 (Around R70k excl. duties), now I know that seems expensive, however when you compare it to other hybrid sample/synth engine synthesizers, you’re looking at that sort of price-range.
