Roli Block Dashboard iOS app for Blocks hardware
Roli Block Dashboard is the new iOS app that gives you full control over your Blocks devices in real time.
Up until now, any of the more advanced configuration and settings for your Roli Blocks devices had to be done on a laptop or computer, so this is a huge announcement for users of the Blocks system. The Roli Blocks hardware is incredibly compact and designed to be mobile, so having an app that reflects that is a huge plus.
Roli Block Dashboard supports connections to multiple devices simultaneously, and works with Lightpad Block M, Seaboard block and Seaboard rise. The app runs in parallel to any other music software you have loaded and allows for real-time control over MIDI channels, which CC is assigned to which gesture and various chromatic scale assignments. This adds a whole new dimension of playability to the Roli Blocks system.
There are a few limitations compared to the laptop version of the application, however those will be ironed out with an update.
Here’s what the developers had to say…
“The application is basically a stripped-down version of the OS X ROLI Dashboard for iOS. It provides almost the same feature set. You can configure several blocks at the same time and the application can run along with other music applications (like Korg gadget, GarageBand…). The only limitation concerns the programs you can load on the Lightpad blocks. Currently you can only load the default note program. That is a limitation due to the way littlefoot programs are working (ROLI will change that in the future). The UI is quite simple and basic but it’s easy to use.” said Christophe Tornieri, the head developer of the Roli Block Dashboard project.
The app is available on the Apple app store, it goes for USD $2.79 (Under R50).
