Pioneer DDJ-RB & DDJ-RR Rekordbox DJ controllers
Two new Rekordbox DJ controllers were announced last week by Pioneer DJ to add to their already significant range.
The new Pioneer DDJ-RB & DDJ-RR are essentially updated versions of the DDJ-SR & DDJ-SB2 but with some cool new features and more significantly packaged with their new DJ software, Rekordbox DJ.
Pioneer DDJ-RR
The Pioneer DDJ-RR is a two channel controller has slightly bigger jogwheels than its predecessor and they are illuminated. Pro feature such as XLR master out (and RCA) and ¼” booth outputs puts this ‘baby brother’ to the DDJ-RZ and DDJ-RX into a semi-pro mode too so it is definitely good enough for use in clubs etc. Other cool features include the Needle Scratch strip so you can scrub though a track quickly or even use it to simply jump ahead in a track and the backlit RGB pads which can also be used with the new Sequencer buttons for Rekordbox DJ. It’s a feature packed 2-channel unit which significantly is 1 of 2 fully fledged Rekordbox Dj controllers now.
Pioneer DDJ-RB
The Pioneer DDJ-RB is an update DDJ-SB2 but now becomes part of Pioneer’s new range of Rekordbox Dj controllers whereas the DDJ-SB2 was of course packaged with Serato Intro. This really is their barebones entry level 2-channel controller. No Needle Scratch or illuminated jogwheels here but they have added 4 extra performance pads to the equation that let you trigger Hot Cues, Pad FX, Slicer and Sampler. The Sequence button to call up sample sequences directly from the hardware is also evident on the DDJ-RB.
2 Unique features to Rekordbox Dj controllers
There are 2 features that these Rekordbox DJ controllers have that are unique to Pioneer and their Dj software.
The first is something called PC Master out which allows one to re-route your master output to your laptop speakers or connected desktop speakers for those occasions when you want to practice and don’t have proper speakers setup. What’s great about this is you can still use your headphones too.
Sequence Call is also a new feature found on both controllers, which allows you create and save sample sequences, then play them back without touching your computer.
Expect to pay
We think the two new Rekordbox controllers will cost around the following in South Africa…
Pioneer DDJ-RR – R 13,000
Pioneer DDJ-RB – R 5,000
