Record your mixes to iPhone with Pioneer DJM-REC
This is one good reason to hold onto your iPhone if you are a DJ; the Pioneer DJM-REC app available on the App Store turns your iPhone or iPad into a professional recording device.
The biggest hassle with recording a mix live while DJing is either a) having the right gear to do so – as in a recording device or b) if you are a laptop DJ, remembering to press record and also hoping your laptop does not bomb out while doing so.
The Pioneer DJM-REC solves this ‘cos let’s face it; who doesn’t have their phone with them when DJing?
Some of the other restraints when using an external device is that one needs to connect this at the back of the mixer and then make sure the output is not clipping etc. It’s a hassle and I admire the guys that persevere with all their gadget setups to capture moment for future marketing purposes.
The DJM-REC solves this problem as one can simply plug into the send/return into the DJM mixer.
The catch
There is a catch though…
The Pioneer DJM-REC is only compatible with the DJM-TOUR1, DJM-900NXS2, DJM-750MK2 and DJM- 450 and the firmware will have to have been updated on these for it to work.
But the features are very cool.
1. Simple connection to the digital send/return on afore-mentioned mixers via USB
2. Lossless 48kHZ Wav recording digital to digital with no analogue conversion
3. You can even stream your mix live to Facebook Live, YouTube and other SM platforms and just as
easily upload straight to cloud likes SoundCloud and Mixcloud direct from your device.
4. The mix even gets an auto time stamp.
5. There’s even a Loudness slider to increase the audio pressure on the mix as well as a Sub Bass
slider to give your mix more beef.
For South African’s the DJM-REC app may not be the amazing solution we’d hoped for because we cannot always be sure of the latest mixer technology in the booth (and that the firmware has been upgraded) but it’s a great concept.
