Reason Rack Plugin – out now in Reason 11
Reason 11 is out now, introducing several new devices, workflow features and most exciting of all – the Reason Rack Plugin
For those who missed the big announcement last month – Propellerhead, the company behind the hugely popular Reason DAW platform has rebranded.
They’re undergoing the big change to signify their dedication to their flagship platform, they’re now known as Reason Studios.
Due to the open-ended architecture and “anything goes” workflow, Reason became a staple music production tool in countless studios worldwide, however up until now, using it alongside another DAW required a bit of a tedious setup process.
That’s all changing with Reason 11.
One of the biggest new announcements with the new version is that Reason also comes as a VST plugin that you can load directly into another DAW, to make use of the sound-design and synthesis capabilities in Reason, alongside some more advanced mixing or performance capabilities that another DAW might offer you.
Reason’s approach has always been very open-ended, and the ability to use it either as an instrument in another DAW or as its own standalone music production system echoes that sentiment.
The biggest new features in Reason 11…
A new feature that was previously unannounced, is the all-new ‘cinematic dream machine,’ Scenic Hybrid Instrument.
The new hybrid orchestral and contemporary music synthesizer is capable of everything from deep brass hits and realistic pizzicato strings to modern growls and bass sounds.
Along with the new version comes some much needed updates to workflow and core functions, curved automation, audio crossfade, and fade-in/fade-outs are probably some of the most requested new features.
They’ve also introduced some more advanced MIDI editing functions, and individual vertical zoom for channels.
Reason comes in three versions, the Intro version goes for USD $99 (Around R1500), the Standard version goes for USD $399 (Around R6000) and the all-in-one Suite edition goes for USD $399 (Around R9000).
The Reason 11 Rack Plugin is currently only available as a VST; however, an AU version is coming soon.
