What’s new in Reason 10, their biggest update to date
Reason 10 arrives next month and Propellerhead have made the bold claim that their latest revision is their biggest update to date.
Bigger than adding VST in Reason 9.5?
It appears so.
Those that bought 9.5 will get a FREE update to Reason 10 by the way so if VST was what swung you towards this DAW, no need to fret.
Reason 10 has two new synthesizers and a bunch of other effects and instruments (6 in total).
New Toys to tweak
Europa is their new ‘shapeshifting’ (their words not ours) wavetable synthesizer.
With Europa you can draw your own waveforms.
The second synth is called Grain and yes, you guessed it is a granular synthesizer which you can use to make sounds out of samples.
There are also three new live-sounding organic instrument devices namely the Klang (tuned percussion), Pangea (“world” instruments) and Humana (vocals).
Radical Piano is also new. This hybrid instrument uses a combination of sampling and physical modelling algorithms to create unique sounds.
Also included is a new modulation effect called Synchronous, which lets you draw your own LFO curves to control filter, delay, reverb and more.
They’ve also added a healthy 3GB of new loops and drum samples which can be used with either Kong or Dr Octo Rex.
The blurb
“Great-sounding instruments and effects inspire musicians to create more and better music. With Reason 10, not only have we delivered some of the best-sounding instruments we’ve ever created, the result is the biggest upgrade we’ve ever done,” said Mattias Häggström Gerdt, Propellerhead Product Manager. “I’m particularly fond of the new synths, Europa and Grain that set a new standard for what’s available in the box. With the two new synths, a plethora of sampled instruments, drums, loops and much more — we can’t wait to hear what music makers are going to create with Reason 10.”
