New line of premium AKG wireless headphones announced
A new line of premium consumer AKG wireless headphones has been announced and it’s certainly a lot more than just your regular consumer cans.
AKG N700NC
There are three new AKG wireless headphones in the range to give consumers a sonic insight into studio sound as well as inspire creativity in musicians on-the-go. Powered by Bluetooth, they have some interesting features to boast, let’s have a look at the new line-up.
AKG N700NC
What is it:
The new AKG N700NC are the latest in reference headphones from the creators of some studio headphone staples. The AKG N700NC claim to deliver Grammy-winning studio sound, with the added bonus of being able to tune in the amount of noise-cancelling, from zero to full immersion.
Best feature(s):
Noise cancelling amount control, Memory-foam earpads for extra comfort, up to 20 hours of battery life and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.
Not so cool:
I would imagine wearing a battery-pack during long mix session might be a bit tedious, I haven’t tried them myself, so I can’t say for sure. Bluetooth wireless is also not ideal for studio situations, although latency isn’t as big of a deal if you’re just mixing/editing.
Final Thoughts:
The AKG N700NC are aimed at mobile/travelling professionals who absolutely need portability and wireless.

AKG Y500
What is it:
The AKG Y500 are their new take on consumer headphones, with the legendary AKG signature sound. The AKG Y500 feature play/pause automation when the headphones are removed from your ears and can be paired with multiple Bluetooth devices concurrently.
Best feature(s):
The new AKG Y500 boast up to 33 hours of battery life, they also feature the same noise cancelling controls as the flagship AKG N700NC, and comfortable memory foam earpads.
Not so cool:
They look a little bit on the flimsy side, however they’re not aimed at professional DJs at all, more the music enthusiast.
Final Thoughts:
The AKG Y500 come in various colours – Black, Blue, Green and Pink

AKG Y100
What is it:
AKG’s new Y100 are in-ear wireless earphones with a single charging port and remote control, the two ear-pieces are connected by a cable to the control and charging section, that means you can’t lose just one of them (Apple take notes here).
Best feature(s):
The AKG Y100 are super-lightweight and boast up to 8 hours of battery life, they also feature noise cancelling control and best of all, they need only 15-minutes to achieve a full charge.
Not so cool:
These are great all-round, at that price I might even pick up a pair to use as just regular listening earphones.
Final Thoughts:
If you’re a music enthusiast who leads a very busy life, who doesn’t have time to sit and wait for headphones to charge, this is a great option for you.

The consumer route…
It’s quite clear to see, that since AKG’s acquisition by Samsung not so long ago, they have had a clear focus on the consumer side of the market.
But with this new range of AKG wireless headphones I’m glad to see that they are still appealing to some aspects of the professional market.
