Pioneer Rekordbox DJ 5.4 update is here, what’s new?
Pioneer Rekordbox DJ 5.4 doesn’t introduce many new features; however, the focus is on a key feature (excuse the pun)
The biggest feature in the new Pioneer Rekordbox DJ 5.4 update is the new “Stoplight System”.
Previously the software only offered traditional music notation as a way of identifying track keys for mixing in key, which proved difficult for those DJs who weren’t too familiar with music theory.
Most other DJ software apps use the commonly-known platform called the Camelot System, which is an easy way to identify key-matches.
The new Pioneer Rekordbox DJ 5.4 update introduces an even easier way, now you’re able to browse your library and quickly identify which tracks will either be a perfect match (shown in green) or a chance of a match (shown in orange).
This presents an awesome visual representation for those DJs who enjoy mixing in key.
Pioneer Rekordbox DJ 5.4 also introduces a new “Hot Cue Loop” feature, that automatically triggers a loop on cue-points which you define. This is great for setting up “emergency loops” at the end of a track. One thing to note, this only works with the Rekordbox DJ and DJ Controller combination, not USB drives.
Any other exciting features in the update?
Alongside a couple of bug fixes, the Pioneer Rekordbox DJ 5.4 update also sees the introduction of a new “Library Protection Function” which allows you to lock your music library, disabling the ability to edit or delete any tracks. This is great for DJs who might be renting their gear out, or those who fear mistakenly clicking on the wrong thing in the heat of the moment on stage.
Although we are still waiting for the introduction of the Camelot System, hopefully we see that in a future update. For now, the new stoplight system is very intuitive, especially for those DJs who might be starting out with mixing in key.
The update is still technically in Beta, however it’s open to the public, so visit the Pioneer website to find out more details.
