Pioneer PLX-500, a more affordable turntable
The Pioneer PLX-500 is the DJ tech giant’s affordable turntable that you can use in your home and also for DJ-ing.
The Pioneer PLX-500 also includes a USB port that allows audio input into a computer, so that you can rip vinyl to digital.
This new turntable takes the vinyl trend into another sector of the vinyl consuming market. The home user/aspiring vinyl DJ can in equal parts practice their skill and show off the turntable in their home while it serves a practical music listening experience.
The PLX-500 is the second turntable to be released by Pioneer after the launch of the PLX-1000 back in 2014.

It looks like an SL1210
The iconic Technics SL-1200 is the design inspiration for both the new and old models of the PLX turntables.
The PLX-500 has a slightly reduced pitch range and lower torque, but the company has determined that it is still suitable for scratch DJs.
The new model comes with a handful of respectable improvements that will make it a qualifiable high end buy, particularly for home listeners. It also has a line output, this makes it so that you don’t need a separate amplifier.
The new Pioneer PLX-500 has been released a day after the company has updated its rekordbox software that will make ripping vinyl easier. The new software feature recognises the gaps between tracks and creates separate files automatically.
The Pioneer PLX-500 will come with a cartridge, slipmat, stylus, and will also be available in the trendy white colour. It will set you back €349 (R 5,500) which is way more affordable than the updated Technics SL-1200 which retails at £2,799 (over R 50K).
The PLX-1000 by contrast currently retails for R 12,890 in South Africa and whilst it has more torque than the PLX-500 and is more of a clone of the SL1210 it does not have USB.
This makes the PLX-500 a good deal – two of these would do very nicely for home mixing.
