Is Pioneer DJ really up for sale?
As strange as it may sound, according to Reuters, Pioneer Global Corporation is selling its DJ division so that it can concentrate on its core business. The sale is apparently in its final stages of being a done deal and is reportedly going to fetch in the region of $570 million – that’s a measly 6 billion and some change in Rands!
Although their DJ equipment business was profitable in the latest financial year, Pioneer has taken the decision to offload it non-core assets so that it can focus on its automotive electronics business. Which is why they are selling stuff like their loss-making audio-video stuff. It still seems a bit of a surprise that they would sell of a profitable and seemingly growing market such as the DJ division, especially since they are at the forefront of this industry.
Would Denon DJ or Native Instruments be interested? Possibly Numark or Allen & Heath? We sincerely doubt any of these companies have the financial clout to buy Pioneer Dj. Whoever does though – they will have a formidable range of products but will also face the challenge of continuing to produce the quality Pioneer DJ are so well known for.
