Pioneer DDJ-SB2 Serato DJ Controller Announced
The Pioneer DDJ-SB2 was announced on Monday by Pioneer DJ and it is the tech giant’s newest entry-level DJ controller and comes packaged with Serato DJ Intro.
The Pioneer DDJ-SB2 is a two channel controller with the same feature set as the DDJ-SB such as filter fade and performance pots but now includes a bunch of new bits that ups the games in the entry-level sector somewhat.
These include things like iZotope FX (which are technically embedded in Serato), loops and cues. The Pioneer DDJ-SB2 also sports level meters, trim pots, the Pad Trans beat effect and four-deck control so the growth path for beginners is excellent.
The compact controller also has large jogwheels, something Pioneer DJ has always been reputed for and the filter fade is a nice touch since; by hitting the Filter Fade button, you can add two high pass filters to the crossfader – so both volume and bass filter can be manipulated using just one hand. That makes mixing on the Pioneer DDJ-SB2 seamless and sound effortless.
The Pioneer DDJ-SB2 also has fully assignable MIDI functionality which can transmit most control information to external devices so it can also be used as a MIDI controller for other DJ apps, should you wish to map it for other software. But of course if you use it with Serato DJ Intro it is fully mapped and therefore is plug and play straight out the box, needing just a USB cable to get going once you’ve downloaded Serato.
