Pioneer DDJ-1000 – dedicated rekordbox DJ controller
The Pioneer DDJ-1000 is a new 4-channel pro performance DJ controller designed specifically for use with rekordbox.
What makes the Pioneer DDJ-1000 different to previous controllers from the tech giant is that it takes advantage of the new features in latest 5.1 version of rekordbox.
Pioneer’s press release emphasises the use of the DDJ-1000 outside of clubs and festivals by highlighting its portability and no doubt the latest feature in rekordbox dj 5.1; the lyric Plus Pack. Other new features in 5.1 include enhancements to the Related Tracks feature, adding more options for quickly finding tracks that are well matched with the one you’re playing. 5.1 will also include an Automix feature that Pioneer says will seamlessly mix tracks thanks to their upgraded track analysis algorithms.
Pioneer DDJ-1000 features
A quick gander at the new DDJ-1000 reveals a fully featured pro DJ controller but with a revised interface. In a nutshell they’ve made the new unit look and feel just a CDJ-2000NXS2 with full size jogwheels.
A novel new feature is the On Jog Display which reveals key track information such as waveform, BPM, track key, time remaining etc. This is a clever way to avoid looking at the laptop all the time, and also clever as it negates adding a central screen to the unit, leaving more real estate for the plethora of features, hence Pioneer’s emphasis on portability.
Other mentionable features include 14 beat FX, 16 multi-coloured Performance Pads (8 per deck), which can trigger Hot Cues, Pad FX and Keyboard Mode (play a Hot Cue in different semi-tones).
The Keyboard Mode sounds awesome as you can improvise with sounds by creating musical phrases further enhancing a DJ performance beyond beat-mixing.
There are also four new additions to the Beat FX; Enigma Jet, Mobius Saw & Mobius Triangle will all add infinite rising or descending sounds – great for builds and drops.
The there is a Low Cut Echo which does as it says; cuts the low frequencies when creating an echo effect.
The Pioneer DDJ-1000 also has dual USB ports, first introduced on the DDJ-SZ which means back to back is a cinch as you can plug two laptops into the controller.
