Patterning 2 is the latest iteration of the iOS-based drum machine, with a wide variety of expanded features.

Patterning 2 features all the same drum kits and features from the original version, with a variety of new features to make programming and creating drum sequences much more intuitive. The new version of Patterning 2 sees the introduction of parameter automation, which can either be recorded in on-the-fly or programmed using the interface, you also now can record in notation, which was missing in the original version.

Another huge feature in Patterning 2 is the new randomizer features, you can randomly trigger drum sounds as well as being able to choose the probability of the randomness. This is awesome for creating constantly evolving sequences and fills.

The entire system is built around an incredibly intuitive circular interface, making it very easy to see what is happening in all of your layers simultaneously. The interface allows you to layer various controls for dragging in velocities and ratchet triggers.

Patterning 2 offers advanced ADSR and other settings to fine-tune each of your channels, furthermore you get built-in filters, delays and reverbs. The app comes with some essential built-in drum kits; however, you can choose from and download tons of kits from within the app.

The app also gives you the ability to trigger various clips in the “song mode” and mix the volumes, pans and effects live using the “mixer mode”. This is a pretty all-encompassing drum machine app, great for live performances or impromptu jam sessions.

Patterning 2 is available on the Apple app store for only USD $14.99 (Around R220) however it looks like it’s only available for iPads, to make sure – check out the compatibility section on the app store page.
