Pacemaker – the iOS app that’s bringing back the mixtape, it allows you to create and share playlists with your friends.

Some of us remember the days of the iconic cassette tape, something about the physical nature of tape and the memorable experiences that went along with the music, made it nostalgic. The technology of tape at the time meant it was incredibly easy to duplicate, while on the one hand – in terms of piracy this created issues for artists, on the other hand it created a space for a new type of creativity to thrive. Enter the mixtape.

The mixtape was a great way of sharing experiences with friends, and solidifying memories to recall later in time. I’m pretty sure that the mixtape was a turning point in my young music career, the moment I discovered the ability to record tape, I started recording over any tapes I could find with all sorts of weird and wonderful mixes.

Technology has changed a lot since the early days of the mixtape, and the lack of collaboration and physical replication are easily to blame for the death of mixtapes. This is where Pacemaker aims to change the game.

Collaborate, create & share mixtape with your friends

Pacemaker is an iOS app that’s bringing back the mixtape culture, the app allows you to create mixtapes, with some advanced DJ transitions and effects depending on the platform. If you’re on iPad, you have access to full two-deck DJ style layout, with an “auto-assisted” mixing mode for iPhone and Apple Watch.

Pacemaker recently added a feature that allows you and your friends to collaborate on a mixtape, you can collectively add tracks, rehearse and fine-tune the transitions before uploading it to the Pacemaker community to solidify the memory.

Pacemaker allows you to add tracks from various locations, however it will only allow you to publish tracks that are available on Spotify, the reason for this is obviously to close the gap of piracy that was created in the early mixtape years.
