Output Inc. is a software development company aimed at creating plugins for “today’s creative music makers”.
Since their launch in November 2013, Output’s plugins have become the secret sauce in hits from contemporary music to blockbuster cinematic scores. Output Arcade is their new offering, heralded as a “game-changing” loop synthesizer. Output promises to deliver new content for Arcade daily, directly from the cloud to your DAW. The system comes jam-packed with a host of interesting modulation techniques and effects, to add your own unique sonic signature to the prebuilt content.
Output Arcade is designed to be much more than just a library of loops, it’s designed to be playable – like an instrument or synthesizer. The plugin uses a unique system where the white keys on your keyboard are used to trigger different sounds, while the black keys are used to modify those sounds.
Output Arcade’s intuitive browser is divided into three groups, “Product Lines” are collections of sounds that fit a common theme, “Kits” are similar to what you would imagine presets to be within Arcade and finally “Loops” which are essentially all the building blocks used to create the above content.
How is Arcade different to other loops and sample libraries?
Output Arcade comes packed with a variety of modifiers, which you can trigger using the black keys on your keyboard. ReSequence is designed to recreate new music sequences from the source file, Playhead emulates tape either speeding up, reversing or slowing down and Repeater is handy for those glitchy, note-repeat style sounds.
Output Arcade also gives you access to advanced controls for creating your own unique instruments using the loop content or by recording your own loops and samples. It automatically syncs to your host tempo, however within the plugin you have the ability to change the “clock multiplier” to quickly create unique variation of your sequences.
