OSSIC X are the world’s first 3D headphones
If their Kickstarter campaign succeeds, OSSIC X hope to be able to deliver the first 3D audio headphones to market.
These self-calibrating headphones aim to address the fact that conventional headphones – which have basically not changed in 60 odd years – do not address the listener’s anatomy such as ear size, head shape and torso when creating a 3D stage.
OSSIC was founded by veterans in the audio industry with over 50 years experience – guys who have worked for company’s Pioneer and Logitech.
OSSIC X explained…
“OSSIC X is the world’s first 3D audio headphone that instantly calibrates to the listener, increasing the sense of auditory space, and acoustically recreating the way you hear the world every day. By pairing advanced 3D audio algorithms with head-tracking and individual anatomy calibration, we deliver incredibly accurate 3D sound to your ears. Experience music like never before. Get more immersed in virtual reality. Bring gaming to the next level.”
Key Features
- Eight individual drivers (4 per earcup)
- Instant audio calibration
- boom-less 3D microphone array
Who would use 3D Headphones?
Gamers and 3D movie watchers are the two obvious uses for OSSIC X but they insist that for music lovers, these headphones will revolutionise one’s listening experience too.
Because the headphones calibrate to match your personal physique – ear shape, head size and torso – the sound delivery, they claim will be like having the best seats in the house at a concert or sitting in front of the best possible speakers money can buy.
They’ve already got over 7,000 backers and almost $2 million has been pledged despite their goal only being $ 100,000 so there is clearly massive potential for this market.
No doubt other global headphone manufacturers are now scrambling to match this technology.
