Numark Production Hub – protect your gear against power surges
Whether you’re a live performer or mobile DJ, looking after your gear is probably high on your list of priorities and this is why products such as the Numark Production Hub exist.
I’m sure we have all been in this situation – when you arrive at a gig, start setting up only to be presented by a power adapter or generator that looks like it’s been put together by Dr. Frankenstein himself. I’m always scared to just plug my equipment in, as you never know what kind of short circuits or bad wiring is going on inside the box.
Never wanting to risk damaging my equipment, I started a routine of plugging my gear in in-sequence, from the cheapest to most expensive item, hoping that if anything was wrong it wouldn’t pop my nice stuff first. A rather nerve-racking experience when faced with a crowd of hyped up party-goers.
All this stress can so easily be avoided using a good surge protector – something that often goes unmentioned but can end up saving you a lot of money. This is where Numark stepped in.
The recently announced Numark Production Hub, at its core is a surge-protected power outlet offering 6 AC Power Sockets.
There is a bit of a downside…
The downside is that it looks like there may only be a 110v version of the Production Hub. Hopefully this is just the initial release and allowance will be made for other parts of the world that require 220v.
There are some other noteworthy features though; the Numark Production Hub hosts four USB 3.0 ports for DJ Controllers and a smart device charging port. The four USB 3.0 ports act as a USB hub, meaning you can power and connect your entire USB rig, via one port on your laptop. This would also be particularly handy in modern production studios which utilize increasing amount of USB products.
The purists out there will tell you that you need a Power Conditioner as well, while this may solve certain issues, they are geared towards cleaning up a noisy signal caused by power issues rather than protecting your gear from spikes in the power.
