What’s the Novation Circuit Mono Station all about?
A month or so ago Novation announced the Novation Peak, a brand new 8-voice polysynth but they also announced the Circuit Mono Station at the same time, which slipped under our radar, kind of.
So what’s the Circuit Mono Station all about?
It looks like a cross between a pad controller, MPC and some sort of synth and possibly even a sequencer.
And it is… kind of.
Under the hood
The Circuit Mono Station is a mono synth but with some of the awesome features of the Circuit all-in-one production station.
With the inclusion of an analogue synthesiser which they say originates from the engine of the legendary Bass Station II, this new production station steps it up a notch.
The Circuit does not have the sound shaping tools that the inclusion of a mono synth brings to the table on the Mon Station derivative.
Notable features include connectivity to pretty much any modern piece of studio gear including flexible connection options like CV, Gate and modulation outputs for controlling separate non-MIDI-enabled hardware. It has conventional MIDI In, Out and Thru and USB for MAC/PC connectivity too.
One of the biggest features of the new Mono Station is the ability to connect it to almost anything that can be found in a modern day studio, with connection options featuring CV, Gate and modulation outputs for controlling separate non-MIDI-enabled hardware.
It can be hooked up to a Mac or PC via USB and it also has MIDI In, Out and Thru, so it can be connected to a wealth of other MIDI gear – just about covering all bases in terms of connectivity.
The synth engine boasts four waveshapes (sample and hold, sawtooth, triangle and square), a sub-oscillator, ring modulator and noise generator.
The sequencer also has a dedicated track for modulation, which allows you to change gate length, change sync rate and ‘mutate’ patterns and control each oscillator independently.
With the modulation matrix you can modulate pitch, pulse width, amplitude, filter and distortion. These work well with the synth’s CV outputs – perfect if you have a modular synth.
Circuit Mono Station is released in July and will cost $499.99/£479.99. (approx R 6,999)
