Ninja Tune Jamm Pro, designed by Coldcut is loads of fun
Ninja Tune Jamm Pro is an app developed by the label’s co-founder, Coldcut.
It has a number of interesting features.
There are a ton of music-making apps available on the iStore, however, what makes Ninja Tune Jamm Pro truly unique is the ability to load loops and samples that you’ve created – tweak and jam them, while recording a multitrack take of your performance.
This is hugely beneficial for being able to jam out remixes which you can further fine-tune, mix and master in your DAW.
The app is the evolution of a previously very popular app called Jamm, which was available on both iOS and Android – however sadly for Android users, Jamm Pro will only be available on iOS.
In a statement, the developers mentioned that the audio latency on Android made it impossible for them to achieve what they wanted with the updated app.
The app is based around four audio tracks, you can load up stuff that you’ve created, sample in audio from a microphone or other input, or use apple’s InterAppAudio to sample sounds from another app. Each of the four tracks has nine sequencers, six modulation lanes, a slice and various other pitch, reverse and gate effects.
Loop-station capabilities…
Jamm Pro works as a fully-fledged loop station for vocalists and beatboxers, if you’ve ever seen the infamous Beardyman – the layout actually looks surprisingly similar to his “Beardytron” app.
There’s a scratch effect that uses time-stretching to simulate a classic record scratch effect, and various other preset modules which use a combination of effects which you can quickly punch in. There’s even a “Coldcutter” modules specifically designed for sophisticated beat manipulation.
The app supports MIDI learning, so you can easily control it from an external device.
Ninja Tune Jamm Pro is set to retail at GBP £19.99 (Around R395), however, up until the end of February 2020, you can grab it for GBP £9.99 (Around R195).
