New KORG synthesizers have been announced
No less than three new KORG synthesizers will be available over the next few months, adding to the company’s impressive range of high quality electronic instruments.
Among the new KORG synthesizers is the Volca Kick which we featured yesterday which is an interesting addition to the portable Volca range.
But they’ve also introduced a desktop module of the Arp Odyssey as well as the microKORG-S.
Here’s a brief rundown of each of the new KORG synthesizers.
Volca Kick
The Kick builds on the massive popularity of the Volca series which are portable analog devices that are almost small enough to put in one’s pocket. But they’re not to be discounted as toys; each one in the range has a purpose and adds some genuine analog juice to any production. Much like their last release, the Volca FM, the Volca Kick digs into the legacy KORG synthesizers have by introducing a kick drum generator that uses the legendary MS-20 self-oscillating filter to generate the tones. The Kick also has performance features such as a step sequencer so it’s not just for generating percussive sounds. It can be played/programmed too.
Expected Price – $159 (R 2,500)
Released – October 2016

The Arp Odyssey Module is, as the name suggests, a modular desktop version of the synthesizer which is a slimmed down version. It has all the original circuitry but also includes a CV/Gate to interface with analog racks and synths and retains all the editing and sound-shaping parameters from the keyboard version. It’s a perfect fit for modern day DAW studios, with USB and 5-pin MIDI and will be available in two models; the white Rev1 and the black and orange Rev3, reproducing traditional styling.
Price – $599 (R 9,995)
Released – October 2016

microKORG-S
The much loved and hugely popular microKORG-S gets a revamp with some awesome new features too. All the original awesome stuff is still there but now the new microKORG-S also has 64 new sounds alongside the original 128 classic sounds, a 2.1 sound system and more memory. They say the speaker system ‘far exceeds its size.’ It’s famous ‘Big Knob’ is still there plus the four-band vocoder with an included miniature microphone, arpeggiator, five easy-edit knobs, and optional battery operation are all part of the package.
Price – $499 (R 7,500)
Released – September 2016
