New Genelec S360 claims huge SPL without compromise on quality
The Genelec S360 are the newest addition to their revolutionary SAM series of high-end studio monitors, flexing some serious specifications.
The new Genelec S360 brings together the performance you would expect from high-end main monitors, and the compact size of nearfield monitors. Designed with the demands of the professional film, post and music production industries in mind, they’re designed to satisfy all the needs of the above, without compromise on size and quality. The Genelec S360 are calibrated to be mounted free-standing, in-wall or on-wall – they even include a nifty isolation pad for decoupling.
The new Genelec S360 feature a 10-inch high efficiency woofer and 1.7-inch titanium tweeter, housed in an “extended directivity control waveguide” – that’s the large oval shape around the tweeter, it makes sure that all frequencies are reproduced correctly in the stereo space. Furthermore, as part of the SAM Family, the new Genelec S360 are compatible with Genelec’s GLM software.
What is the Genelec GLM software?
The GLM software is Genelec’s calibration and control system, designed to work with specific monitors – it analyses and corrects your acoustic space and offers various controls for playback.
This also means that the new Genelec S360 can be incorporated into almost any existing Genelec system, as an upgrade to your main monitors or a second reference. The GLM software will recognize the system and give you various configurations and calibration settings to make the most of your setup.
The Genelec S360 feature a bi-amp Class D system, providing the woofers with a staggering 250 watts and the tweeter – 100 watts. Who would ever need that in a studio? Me, that’s who…
Genelec have also announced a new complementary subwoofer for the SAM series, the Genelec 7382 which features three 15” long-throw subwoofers. This is for those serious film-sound designers and composers looking for cinema sound in the studio.
The Genelec S360 are set to retail at USD $4595 (Over R60k), and the Genelec 7382 are set at USD $11995 (Around R160k). Like I said, for those who are serious about sound.
