Levitating turntables could soon be yours
A company on Kickstarter is looking for backers for their levitating turntables. The gravity defying turntables have an enviably slick appearance. The accompanying commercial reinforces the aspirational image behind the creation of their product.
Upon first impression, the dramatic and highly emotive melodies in their classic high brow TV commercial forces you to take the levitating turntables seriously.
This is not merely a concept of the ambitious imagination of a Silicon Valley employee, but a true contender in the vinyl player market.
Patented Technology
MAG-LEV Audio are making use of a patented technology which uses magnetic levitation and sensor regulating software that ensures a consistent and accurate turning of the platter.
The creators are trying to raise $300,000 with the Kickstarter campaign. So far they are at more than $240 000 and pretty close to their goal. They are hoping to have the levitating turntables on the market by September next year.
The levitating turntables comes with a Pro-Ject 8.6 tonearm and Ortofon OM 5E cartridge, while retractable platter feet are installed to allow the platter to rest when the turntable is turned off. There’s also an illumination below the platter which is meant to enhance the visual effects of levitation when the lights are off.
“We were searching for a way to give people a better, newer way to experience vinyl records. By pushing the frontier of audio technology, we were able to integrate the uplifting experience of music into the turntable design itself, bringing the feeling of zero gravity into your living room.” MAG-LEV Audio
Air is expected to be the smoothest medium, involving the least amount of friction. This is predicted to elevate your vinyl listening. The turntable includes a cueing mechanism, speed select button, platter feet, and a pre-fitted cartridge and tonearm that lifts at the end of the record.
You can support the levitating turntables project with a pledge on Kickstarter.
