Ableton’s Learning Music website teaches the basics of making music
Ableton have just launched a music learning website aptly called Learning Music.
Learning Music is an interactive website intended to teach novice/learners the basics of music theory fundamentals.
These fundamentals include things like beat creation, melodies, harmony, writing a bassline and also song structures.
Learning Music is an entirely FREE set of lessons and is such an awesome way for noobs (and not such noobs) to ensure they understand the basic rules of writing palatable music arrangements.
The site is not only for Ableton users.
Certain things are naturally handier if you are an Ableton user, though. There are interactive Ableton Live-style clips in browser mode that one can practice with.
Well known existing songs are used to explain key concepts and scales which also makes it really easy to understand.
The site also has a section called “The Playground.”
One can experiment with this section using all the techniques explained and also create tracks from these.
You can even export them to Ableton Live!
Ableton published an amazing book in 2015 called the Making Music – 74 Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Producers. The book explores the depths one needs to delve into in order to reach one’s creative self. The Making Music book is substantial and any seasoned producer would enjoy it.
Learning Music is the opposite end of the spectrum; this site is an amazing resource for producers who are still at the tinkering stage but want to have a better handle on music theory.
