The story of the leaked Roland SH-101 Boutique originates from Synth Anatomy and is based on a Roland employee posting these images on his Instagram account. Said employee’s name is Nick de Friez and his account has since been made private, further fuelling the speculation.

The original SH-101 was an immensely popular synth and is still sought after today. In fact it is still requested on many producers’ tech riders for use onstage since their tweaky, thin synth sounds are ideal for using for added FX over a live PA performance.
Of course the original was also an analog monophonic synthesizer whereas most of the Boutique range (except the new Roland SE-02) uses ACB (analog circuit behavior) technology – which is basically digital technology designed to emulate analog. The original’s white noise generator was particularly popular onstage but it also had a step sequencer, arpeggiator and CV/Gate inputs.
Anyway it would make perfect sense to add Roland SH-101 Boutique to the range considering its popularity back in the day and even now.
