KORG monologue super affordable analog synthesizer
The KORG monologue is a brand new monophonic synthesizer that is super affordable and aimed squarely at the home producer market.
The price tag has been mooted at $ 299,99 which at today’s exchange rate is around R 4,250 excluding import duties. So let’s call it a R 5k synth. That’s pretty darn competitively priced.
The Lowdown
The KORG monologue includes a completely programmable new synthesis structure, a revamped step sequencer, micro-tuning features and a whole host of pro functions that enhance its programmability and its playability.
Notably it shares the same build quality and layout as the best-selling minilogue.
In fact the KORG monologue has the same synthesis design as the minilogue. One of the new features, the new 2-pole VCF offers an all analog drive circuit for punch and warmth. The LFO rate can be set to very high speeds which creates brand new timbres.
The KORG monologue has 100 program locations of which 80 of them are presets and 20 are for user patches. But all of them are fully editable. Handily these saved presets include step sequencer data as well as motion sequence automation.
Speaking of the sequencer there is also a dedicated button for each step making it that much easier [and quicker] to program. Motion sequencing with editing along with the ability to choose from smooth to stepped parameters for capturing all add to extensive rhythmic possibilities.
You can also do on-the-fly transposition via key triggering so in a nutshell the step sequencer offers the ability to do some really complex patterns.
The other notable feature on the KORG monologue is the microtuning. Aside from the factory scales there are 12 scale locations for users to save to, which provides the same solid, well-tempered self-tuning circuit as the minilogue.
Something quote unusual on the KORG monologue keypad is that the 25-key are laid out from E to E instead of the stock standard C to C octaves. This is done to achieve those low bass notes and will no doubt please bassists and guitarists having low E right at one’s fingertips.
