Korg Gadget 3.0 introduces two devices styled on Arcade systems
Korg Gadget 3.0 introduces two new instruments styled on Sega Megadrive and Taito Arcade sound and likeness.
Korg Gadget is the music-making app for desktop, iOS and Nintendo Switch. It already features a huge array of very capable instruments and effects, with more being added during each major update. The latest update to Korg Gadget 3.0 incorporates two exciting new instruments styled on legendary Arcade game systems. The first new instrument is a 16-bit drum machine and sampler based on the Sega Megadrive system called Otorii, it contains drum samples, sound effects and voice recordings from several popular 80s Sega arcade game titles such as Out Run, After Burner and Golden Axe.
Here’s what Korg had to say about the new collaboration with Sega, “We are proud to announce our collaboration with Sega. Concentrating on arcade games that achieved popularity in the 80s, such as Out Run and After Burner, drumming sounds and sound effects have been newly sampled from original equipment. This nostalgic design, inspired by the Genesis and with a 16-bit logo, is a distinctive rhythm sound generator gadget.”
Next on the list…
The second new instrument in the latest update to Korg Gadget 3.0 is called Ebina. It’s a synth gadget inspired by the Darius arcade game cabinets. It features FM sounds sampled from classic titles such as Darius, Ninja Warriors and Night Striker alongside some basic detune and delay effects. The routing in Ebina is fairly flexible allowing you to craft your own sounds from scratch or take inspiration from existing patches.
Korg Gadget is available for Desktop and iOS however there are several reasons that make the Nintendo Switch version interesting. There’s a multi-player mode allowing four people to easily collaborate, and the Nintendo Joy-Cons offer an interesting and expressive way to play your sounds.
