Vocal Doubling is not a new technique or effect, there are various plugins on the market that offer similar capabilities, albeit each with their own sound. The more choice, the better.
How much control does the plugin offer?
The interface for iZotope Vocal Doubler is made up of only three parameters – Separation, Variation and Amount which are pretty self-explanatory, however using the centre display graph, you can tweak those parameters in a sort of x/y fashion.
iZotope Vocal Doubler has an “Effect Only Mode” that allows you to remove the dry signal completely, this is great for creating multiple layers of doubled vocal tracks – for an extra huge sound. The plugin comes as an AU, VST2, VST3 and AAX and it’s compatible with almost every leading DAW on the market.
iZotope Vocal Doubler is a great tool for adding accent and depth to a chorus or even just a wider effect on any sound source, you can automate the parameters for a varying sound or to suddenly accentuate the beginning of a chorus section. There’s even a little “Vocal Tips” button along the top, that brings up some quick tips for making the most of your vocal sound.
