Invader is here to rid DJ booths of laptops
Invader is something for all the purists who look down on laptop DJing. DJ QBert shows off what he hopes will rid the hallowed DJ booth of laptops in the future.
The Invader is a two channel mixer with a built in touch screen and a computer.
Invader has eight buttons on each channel that control cue points in a track. It also includes all the usual audio inputs including phono for connecting to turntables, three USB ports and an HDMI connection for video.
The idea is that it will put an end to selectors and scratch artists having to bring along their laptops to their performances.
Designed by QBert
The Invader mixer has been designed by DJ QBert and the Thud Rumble Company, owned by fellow turntablist, Yogafrog.
This new mixer was presented in a basic prototype last year. Now, a version that is more complete has been presented at the Intel Developers Forum. The final polished and perfect product is scheduled for launch later on this year.
The mixer was shown running Native Instruments’ Traktor software and it is also capable of running any Windows 10 compatible DJ app.
What makes it even cooler is that you can order yours customized. They are offering laser etching, your choice of rubber retro arcade buttons, and you can also get the Invader in different colours. Basically, you can style up your mixer to your own preference and match it to your personality a little.
The mixers starting price is estimated at $1,699 (R 23K) and should be ready to ship around Christmas time.
Perhaps this could be a neat little gift that you give yourself at the end of the year.
