Intellijel Steppy – The smallest 4-track eurorack sequencer yet?
Intellijel is known for creating a variety of 1U utility modules for the Eurorack environment, Intellijel Steppy takes the cake.
Intellijel Steppy is a 64-step, 4-track sequencer packed into a super-compact 1U module, each of the four tracks can be muted, reset or cleared individually. It has a particularly nifty “Loopy” mode which allows you to quickly retrigger the sequence between any two step, this is great for creating fills, breaks or drops.
Intellijel Steppy features the ability to create per-step ratcheting, each track can have a unique length allowing for advanced polyrhythms or evolving rhythmic patterns. Each track can also have its own independent clock division and swing parameter assigned to it. Each of the four track can have a unique delay setting for creating slight humanization or off-kelter rhythms, furthermore you have the ability to control the probability at which the gate on each of the programmed tracks actually triggers.
Each track in the Intellijel Steppy can be freely rotated forwards or backwards, this is another great way of creating breaks and fills, then quickly snapping the rotation back to default setting to return to the original rhythm.
What kind of rack would the Intellijel Steppy be?
The Intellijel Steppy is an incredibly “playable” sequencer, it’s designed to be hands-on and the distinct layout makes it incredibly easy to navigate. Don’t be fooled by the size of this guy, it’s a seriously powerful module that would fit into the heart of any rhythm or drum orientated Eurorack system.
Intellijel Steppy is incredibly well-priced considering the sheer amount of features and small rack footprint, it retails for USD $199 (Around R2900 excl. duties). Keep in mind, the module doesn’t contain an internal clock, so it would need to be used alongside a module that can send a clock to it for full functionality.
