IK Multimedia UNO Drum – New hybrid analog/PCM drum machines
The new IK Multimedia UNO Drum is a compact drum machine that combines analog synthesis with PCM samples for versatility.
At the heart of the new IK Multimedia UNO Drum are six analog drum voices and 54 digital samples to choose from, you’re capable of sequencing 12 drum sounds with 11 voices of polyphony. The analog voices consist of two independent kick drums, snare, clap, closed and open hi hats while the PCM voices add two toms, rimshot, cowbell, ride and crash cymbals.
The IK Multimedia UNO Drum has memory that can hold 100 stored patterns and 100 kits, they’re pre-loaded however you can customize them to your taste. The UNO Drum allows you to sequence patterns step-by-step or record them in on-the-fly using the touch sensitive trigger pads.
The IK Multimedia UNO Drum has three master effects – a compressor, drive and stutter effect. There are also five performance effects to add playability and offer a wide range of sonic possibilities. The UNO Drum can be powered by four AA batteries and it’s super compact and lightweight making it the perfect companion for travelling musicians or live performers.
A new Volca companion?
The new UNO Drum features MIDI I/O, and with the included adapter it will easily sync up to an existing Volca setup (or any other synth setup for that matter). The UNO Drum has an audio input which mixes the incoming signal before the internal compressor negating the need for a mixer in smaller setups. It’s also got USB for both power and MIDI, one thing the Volcas don’t have – making it a great interface between a Volca and your DAW.
Of course, it’s also a great companion for the UNO Synth, being the same form-factor and very similar layout. IK Multimedia’s UNO range is shaping up to be a force to be reckoned with, that’s for certain. My guess is we will see some more interesting and competitively priced synths in this range soon.
IK Multimedia UNO Drum is set to retail at a suggested price of USD $249.99 (Around R3600 excl. duties), check out IK Multimedia’s website for more information.
