iBassist is an “intelligent” bass playing app for your iPad
iBassist is a fantastic app for live performers looking for an intelligent system for basslines and bassists looking for ideas.
The iBassist app allows you to configure a tempo and key and then gives you a selection of usable basslines to play along to. Choose from various styles, categorized into genres from Funk and Soul to Rock, furthermore the app has a variety of built-in progressions and lines based on famous grooves such as “Stir it Up” and “Billie Jean”.
The core sound of the iBassist app is based on a “round-robin” multi-sample system, meaning you’re able to get some pretty accurate sounding bass sounds – there’s also a host of effects from filters and compressors to delays to further fine-tune your sound.
iBassist also gives you the ability to edit your progressions and even the notation in the various grooves. You’re also able to save them into one of 8 “Live Pads” which you can recall on-the-fly. The Live Pad mode also gives you the ability to automatically generate a variety of usable parts to jump between, based on your current keys and chords.
Does iBassist play well with others?
The app allows you to send the MIDI you’re generating to other apps on your iPad, so you could potentially trigger a synth sound, or even layer it with the bass sound from iBassist. You even can export MIDI files from the app to load into a DAW or piece apart to learn some new bass grooves.
It has a very intuitive interface, allowing you to edit and draw in notes alongside being able to choose from a variety of predefined grooves. All-in-all this makes it a great option for live performers, as tweaking the app is quick and easy and you can save a variety of songs to recall on stage.
iBassist is available on the Apple app store for USD $17.99 (Around R300), for iPad only.
