FXPansion Cypher2 – most expressive analog modelled FM synth yet?
ROLI announce the collaborative FXPansion Cypher2 plugin synthesizer – an analog modelled FM synthesizer powerhouse with expression and performance at heart.
The new FXPansion Cypher2 is fully MPE compatible, meaning you’re able to achieve a seriously expressive feel and sound using per-note pitch-bend and other modulations. The plugin is the perfect companion for owners of ROLI’s Seaboard series of MPE controllers, however it still functions perfectly with regular MIDI controllers. FXPansion Cypher2 comes packed with over 700 regular presets and 400 MPE-ready presets that take full advantage of ROLI’s 5D technology.
The main interface in FXPansion Cypher2 is split into three windows, the “Synth” windows offers three oscillators, two filters, two dual LFO’s, three envelopes and a “Ramps” module for more complex modulations. The “Effects” window offers a library of over 30 unique effects to stack up to six simultaneously. Furthermore, the “Sequencer” window is for programming your arps and sequences.
Along the top of FXPansion Cypher2’s interface is the complex Transmod modulation system with 24 modulation slots, each one can contain a source which can modulate anything within Cypher2’s engine. This creates a very flexible and visual way of controlling modulation during the sound design process.
Compatibility and Price?
The FXPansion Cypher2 features “the world’s most extensive library of MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE) compatible sounds” according to Roli. However, like we mentioned above, the plugin synthesizer does work with regular MIDI controllers. The plugin is VST, AU and AAX compatible and comes with a standalone version – perfect for quick live performance setups.
FXPansion Cypher2 is available on their website for USD $199 (Around R2900), however existing owners of DCAM Synth Squad, Strobe2, ROLI Seaboard or ROLI Blocks can purchase the plugin at a discounted price of USD $79 (Around R1200) until 7 September 2018 or USD $99 (Around R1400) thereafter.
