Denon DJ acquires Soundswitch software/hardware lighting brand
SoundSwitch is a revolutionary software/hardware package that connects your lighting and DJ software packages, giving you ultimate control.
SoundSwitch allows you to control your lightshow either using your DJ MIDI Controller or automated using their DAW style software. It works with almost all DMX lighting hardware, with various settings pre-mapped for a host of popular units. The workflow within the app is very reminiscent of a DAW, so it’s very easy to learn for most DJs and live performers.
The software allows you to setup your entire show beforehand, giving you the freedom to focus on your performance. It also supports MIDI messages, so you’re able to takeover and control your lightshow on the fly.
So Denon DJ just announced their acquisition of SoundSwitch, exciting news for the growing DJ / Light Show space.
It’s no secret that Pioneer is also working on a similar integration between DJ software/hardware and lighting – however some healthy competition is a good thing for innovation.
What to expect in the future?
“The SoundSwitch software will continue to bring even more creative options to our DJ customers’ gigs and shows, bringing a more exciting and vibrant experience of lighting, visuals and sound.” says CEO of Denon DJ – Jack O’Donnell.
Denon recently showcased their new StageLinq protocol, aimed at the higher-end lighting and audio-visual technicians. StageLinq creates a network between music and visual performers to make sure everything is on cue, hopefully the future of SoundSwitch holds as much excitement.
Will we start seeing DMX and lighting control being integrated into entry-level DJ controllers and software? This would be something all the mobile DJ’s would love!
The system currently only works with Serato DJ and Virtual DJ 8, however hopefully with Denon DJ behind the project, we will start seeing it become standard across applications.
